Shellharbour City Council is seeking feedback on a proposal to formally name an unnamed creek and reserve in Albion Park.

The creek begins near Jamberoo Road and flows north through public reserves before joining Frazers Creek near Ashburton Drive and the Croom Regional Sporting Complex. The reserve follows much of the creek corridor through the Rosetta Hills, Woodbridge and Howchin Estate areas of Albion Park.

The proposed names, Thampa Creek and Thampa Reserve, recognise Dharawal language and local Aboriginal cultural heritage. Thampa is a Dharawal word meaning 'spread' (pronounced 'dhamba') and was recommended by Council's Aboriginal Advisory Committee. The proposal has been developed in accordance with the NSW Geographical Names Board's place naming requirements and Council's Naming and Addressing Policy.

Place names help identify, celebrate and connect people with local places. Aboriginal place names also help recognise and preserve Aboriginal language, culture and heritage.

Community feedback will help Council determine whether to proceed with the proposed names before they are submitted to the NSW Geographical Names Board for consideration.
