The Shade in Playspaces Policy has now been adopted 🌤️

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback during the Public Exhibition period! A total of 18 submissions were received, with 100% of respondents being supportive of the draft policy.

The Shade in Playspaces Policy can now be implemented in future playspace upgrades, renewals, and development applications for new parks. The policy will also inform the development of a future Play Strategy for Shellharbour in accordance with the Shellharbour Open Space and Recreation Strategy 2020.

Shellharbour City Council is committed to creating comfortable and safe environments that encourages people to enjoy the outdoors and lead healthy, active lifestyles.

The Shade in Playspaces policy is the first of its kind for Shellharbour City Council and will provide guidance on the design and provision of built and natural shade in our playspaces.

The benefits of shade include:

• reduce sun exposure and protect against UV radiation and skin cancer.
• reduce heat by keeping the grounds and equipment cool.
• promote active lifestyles by creating more comfortable and cooler outdoor spaces in hotter weather.
