We’re moving into Stage 2 of the Shellharbour Village Parklet Trial.
As part of this next stage, the temporary parklet will be relocated to a new spot on Addison Street.
The parklet trial is about testing how small, flexible public spaces can make the village more welcoming and enjoyable. By moving the parklet to a different location, Council can see:
- How people use the space
- How people move along the street
- How the parklet supports local businesses and activity in different areas
Trying the parklet in more than one location helps us gather a wider range of feedback before any decisions are made about permanent parklets or similar spaces in Shellharbour Village.
The parklet will continue to offer a small outdoor seating area with greenery, giving people a place to sit, relax and enjoy the village atmosphere.
Your feedback is an important part of this trial and will help shape future improvements in the village.
This trial responds to feedback from the Shellharbour Village Check In, where the community told us they value welcoming, people-friendly spaces that encourage connection and bring life to the village.
What is a parklet?
A parklet is a small outdoor space that extends the footpath, turning part of the road or a parking space into a spot for people to enjoy. They often include seating, greenery and shade, creating a welcoming place to sit, relax, eat, or catch up with friends. Each parklet takes up around one parking space and helps make our streets more vibrant, social, and community friendly.
Shellharbour Village Parklet Trial
This parklet trial brings the NSW Government Movement and Place Framework to life in Shellharbour Village, creating a space that balances street movement with a people-friendly, vibrant public area.
We’re trialling how the parklet can:
- Make the street more social and welcoming
- Encourage walking, relaxing, and interaction
- Support local businesses and outdoor activity
- Add greenery and comfort to the streetscape
